cold calling companies for sponsorship always drives me up the wall because some singaporeans have no inkling on etiquette whatsoever. case in point: this printing company (msn me if you want the name so you will never have to encounter such an unpleasant fellow)
me: hello, is this _________?
man: yes.
me: hi, i am (name) and i am calling on behalf of temasek hall from nus. we're a student hostel in nus and this year we're looking for corporate sponsorship for flag day. would you like to make a cash or cheque donation to us for flag day?
man: hm. *silence ensues
me: *in bid to break silence would you like us to email you our proposal? we could send you our proposal by mail too.
man: *silent
me: uh, would you like anything?
man: no, i would not like anything.
me: right, thank you.
FREAK OF FRIGGING NATURE OKAY. don't want to donate then say no la! i seriously don't mind if you decline. as long as you do it politely and not like some woman who rattled on about tight budgets and how they already sponsored some polytechnic. i don't need a reason damn it! just tell me no and i'll be fine with that.
our day will come.
