our day will come.

the day i met an angel

i am finally in school, my room is very big and i have my own toilet so people who are too cheap for hostels can live in my room for a very reasonable 5 euros a night. the road to espoo was cold and hard. first, i must introduce you to a character whom i shall call xiao pang because i don't know her name. now xiao pang was one of my room mates in the hostel i lived in in the helsinki city centre. xiao pang was not xiao at all, i think she's at least twice my weight.

apart from her weight, xiao pang had another problem - she snores like a frigging freight train. this would not have been a problem if i had kept up the pace we had travelled the rest of europe in. unfortunately, i was fairly well-rested therefore i couldn't sleep through her thunderous snores. what made it worse was that my earplugs fell out in the night and i could only find one. this meant that i slept from about 11pm to 2.40am. i eventually gave up sleeping and started packing at 6am so i could make my way to school.

after i stuffed everything in the huge bag i brought, i got to the bus station in one piece after being harried by an irate finn because i didn't know the bugger was talking to me. then, i realised that i left all my money and passport in the hostel so i had to double back and get it, with all 40+ kgs of baggage. by this time, the weight on my shoulders was giving me a headache.

got all my barang barang and as i walked out of my hostel i got harassed by some drunk finn who kept calling out, "china china!" made it all the way to the main street to take a taxi because i am too weak to take the bus which was 15 euros cheaper. all the taxis were occupied and i stood there in the wind feeling like lap cheong. the wind was so strong it blew my 20kg luggage away but i was still sweating from the weight. and this is where my angel appeared.

i asked her if i could flag a taxi down from where i was and she gave me directions to the nearest taxi stand. initially she offered me a ride to the nearest taxi stand, but after she learnt of my destination she offered to drive me all the way there. she actually trusted me enough to leave me alone in her car (a land rover) while she went upstairs to get her handphone. why so nice. i didn't get her contact number or anything but i will leave a card on her windscreen. this more than made up for my shitty morning where my luggage threatened to/merrily toppled over and people would just walk past me. this is the kind of thing that inspires you to be a nicer person.

to my angel in the land rover who is taking an mba course in my university: thank you.

nostalgic sunday comes very late.

you just need to hear the opening notes of this song to know what i am missing. i will talk about travels later. uploading photos now.
